UNIVERSITY

Just warning you this is a bit of a wordy post!
Recently I’ve been helping out my university with phone calls to the 2014 starters on my course, asking them if they have any questions or concerns about starting university. I was hearing almost exactly the same questions and worries call after call and I can relate to them all as I was in the same position this time last year! So, I thought that I would write this post, just for anyone that may come across my blog and currently has unanswered questions about University and all of the doubt and worry that you naturally get beforehand.

BEFORE UNIVERSITY

Interviews
Some courses and units require you to attend interviews before they offer you a place, so that they can look through your portfolio of work, or assess you're personality and the way you interact with others. This can be quite daunting and cause a lot of stress and worry, but it really is about being yourself. If can show how passionate you are about starting the next part of your life at that university studying that course, then there is no reason why they wouldn’t consider you. It’s all about showing how much you want it!

Making your choices
Once you’ve received all of your offers, it can be quite hard to choose which you want to take as your definite choice and your insurance. If you have been to open days and interviews at these Universities theres probably one that deep down you feel more attracted too and feel comfortable within the surroundings. However some of you may have never visited where you have applied too, so you need to think of the pros and cons of each - maybe you should write it down for each Uni and then you can weigh them up against one another to help make your choice.

AT UNIVERSITY

Settling in / Meeting people
Before moving to university, I was a mess. Constantly worrying about moving away from home, was I going to settle in? Would I like it? What if I miss home? What will I do? And so on. Now, looking back I can’t believe what a waste of worry this was! Moving into halls of residence (uni accommodation) was a lot better than I expected. You have moved away from home, more than likely you wont know many people at your university to begin with, and may be feeling slightly scared and alone to begin with. BUT! Everybody else is in exactly the same position, so it is so easy to make friends, socialise with everyone and just to have fun meeting all these various new people that you may have never crossed paths with before! If you are feeling that you are going to miss home a lot and will struggle away from family, I just think ‘I am only a phone call away’ and you can call friends and family that are at home at any point to talk about anything!

Starting university
The same kind of thinking goes with starting university. All of your classmates are in the same situation and are probably feeling exactly how you are, giving you no reason to not get on well or meet new people. If anything these will probably be easier to create friendships with as you all have the same interests and way of thinking! Your lecturers and teachers are all there to help you with your degree and only want the best for you, so don't be afraid of them, show them how good you are at what you do!

Uni work / Deadlines
If you're like me, you get a tad stressy when it comes to getting work done and meeting deadlines -I’ve grown to become the biggest time management freak you could possibly meet! If you can manage your time effectively getting your assignments done wont phase you at all, and you should have more than enough time to complete things before the scheduled hand in date. However, there will probably be the odd occasion where you do feel rushed and stressed because you haven't yet finished and the hand in is tomorrow, or you've had a major set back and need to re-do something. The key thing is to NOT panic. You will get the work done and it will be of the standard necessary - Think positively!

Dont worry about University, its a huge new chapter in your life and it will change the way you think about everything! I feel a lot more independent and grown up since moving away from home and its only been five-six months! Have fun, university is an adventure waiting for you to take advantage of. Meet as many people as you can and learn as much from everyone and everything!

‘The world is your oyster’ as they say!
I hope this helps at least a tiny bit and good luck! :)

IRRATIONAL FEAR

Photo taken from google.com

Just a quick post today, I've got some Uni work that needs doing so I can't sit on my blog for hours *cries*. I saw this on google earlier and it made me giggle, not because it was hilarious, but because of how true it is! Depending on where I might be going that day or how long I am spending in Uni, or even who I may or may not see throughout the day will decide on what outfit I wear aha!  If I put together an amazing outfit on a day that isn't really anything special, I will save it for the next day that it is worth wearing for! Sounds quite vain doesn't it?  OH WELL!

Who else does this? I'm hoping I'm not the only one!

WHAT'S IN MY DAY-TO-DAY BAG?

Bag - Primark £6.00

One of my favourite type of blog post and youtube video is a good old 'Whats in my bag', so I thought I would do one of my own to show you what I carry around with me. I also thought that I have a few different type of bags : a day-to-day bag, a uni bag, and a traveling home and back to uni bag. SO! over the next few weeks I'm going to do a post on each of these bags and what I take with me. Anyway, enough babbling! Here is what I take with me in my daily bag.

-Firstly my prescription glasses get placed in my bag, mainly so I don't forget them and because I end up with the worst headache if I don't wear them when I need too!
-Next comes my purse, obviously a must have as you never know when you need to spend or splurge some money.
-I get quite sore lips quite quickly at this time of year, so my Carmex helps them stay soft and smooth. However I do wear my MAC Up the amp lipstick majority of the time to try and keep my lips moisturised and look presentable at the same time!
-Rather than carry a massive perfume bottle around for the day, I received a 'The perfume Shop' travelo dupe for Christmas last year and I use it all the time! Its so much easier to top it up with some of my favourite perfume to spray myself with throughout the day.
-I'm not an asthmatic, however the doctors prescribed me an inhaler since I can remember as I get short of breath easily, so this is a must have in my bag from day to day.
-The amount of times I have been out and about and found myself in a situation where I need a pen but haven't had one is crazy, so I make sure I carry one with me all the time now.
-Chewing gum, for obvious reasons - after food and drink, I hate nasty after tastes in my mouth!
-Paracetamol, incase I get a headache for not wearing my glasses when I need too!
-I take my iPhone 4s everywhere! Who doesn't? I don't know what I would do without it, I would feel as if a part of me was lost. Thats quite bad isn't it?
-I find that if I have my headphones, I can listen to music to pass the time quicker if I am on the bus/train, in a long queue, or to make me feel less awkward in those situations where you're by yourself and don't want to look like a total loner!

What's in your day-to-day bag?

BLACK

Photo taken from google.com

I saw this quote 'I'll stop wearing black when they invent a darker colour' earlier this week and it made me realise that lately that all I seem to be wearing is blacks, greys and whites. I mentioned this to a few girls in my class at uni and they also agreed that the amount of colour that we all used to include into our outfits has just faded slowly and disappeared.

I know 'Black is the new black' and all, but it shouldn't make us all into dull and dreary wearers of fashion! Yes, black is slimming, sophisticated and classy, but this can't stop us from being daring and colourful. Maybe this is what makes the days feel longer, makes us more tired and fed up, or makes us focus on the negativity throughout the days - everything is psychological after all, and everything has some kind of effect on us even if we don't know about it.

It's quite late to be making a new years resolution, so this is my February solution: From now on I am going to start wearing a lot more colour again! - you heard it here first! Hopefully this will boost my happiness, liveliness and make me feel more awake at uni haha.

Are you going to take on my February resolution as well?

HOMEWEAR WISHLIST #1

Now if you're like me, you love having a clear, tidy, modern and slightly shabby chic looking bedroom. Here are a few things that I have seen around the shops that I absolutely love and you might be interested in too!

This showgirl room divider is so lush! Its quite pricey but its just so perfect, just imagine it in your bedroom now, go on, how cute does it look, right? At the minute I'm quite into vintage showgirl/pinup girls so when I saw this my heart swooned. Now for another bit of imagining! Imagine the vintage boudoir mannequin stood next to the room divider in your room... perfecto!

I always have a throw over the end of my bed on top of my duvet incase I get cold in the night and for extra decoration, so this floral one would look so cute in my room. I'm also a lover of cushions and teddies on top of my bed, and this kitten one is so adorable, how could anyone not want it!

I don't think you can ever have enough little decorations within your room, just for those extra little touches, so the clock and plaque are the kind of things that I like around me just to create a cute vintage atmosphere and feel. The jars I thought were really detailed and intricate and would look so good filled with those smelly petal things you can get from IKEA and Dunelm Mill and so on or even filled with marbles or beads.

What's on your home decor wishlist at the minute?

HATS MORE LIKE IT!

Photos above taken from tumblr.com

Almost everywhere I go at the minute I'm seeing a lot of people in all different types of stylish hats, not to mention how many pictures I see on tumblr, pinterest, etc of ways to wear them/ lookbooks. Here are a few different hats I've found on various websites that may take your fancy.

My favourite of them all are the wide brim floppy hats and the beekeeper hats, I'm quite a hat person and enjoy topping off an outfit with one just for some extra perzaz! However if you don't feel daring enough to pull off something with such a wide brim why not go for a cute pork pie hat or a bowler for a sweet parisian look? Also, as the summer is fast approaching and the sun will (hopefully) soon be out, a straw fedora is the perfect accessory for an outfit and to help you keep cool and covered from the sun rays.

BACK TO THE 50s

All photos taken from pinterest.com

At the moment I am planning a photoshoot for my Uni work and as you may have guessed from these images, I am going back in time to the 50s and using this era as my inspiration. My main influences are Audrey Hepburn in Roman Holiday and just her fashion sense in general along with her hair and make-up, the Horst P Horst Vintage Vogue magazine cover and other fashion images that represent that era. I just thought I would share these with you to let you know what I am getting up too.

FASHION WISHLIST #1

This is my first wish list that I've made on this blog! I haven't really been lusting over many items at the minute as I am trying to save my money for Reading Festival in the summer (which I cannot wait to blog outfit posts about! eek!) so I have been avoiding shops and online shopping. But here are a few things that have caught my eye!

I never used to wear watches until I got my little Casio for Christmas the other year, which I wear everyday without fail. I've been looking for a pricey alternative to Michael Kors watches for ages as I'm not a fan of them and came across Daniel Wellington watches! I love how simplistic yet expensive they look.
The bra I noticed while looking on monki.com and I think its so cute and could turn into quite a staple piece within the wardrobe. The same goes for the gingham baby doll dress, which is so simple yet could be transformed into so many looks with the help of a chunky belt, oversized coat and some dr martens.
I love bright coloured bags, especially when you don't want to wear a bright, colourful outfit. On the days when I chuck on an all black and grey outfit, I like to liven my look up with an eye-catching bag to add something different, which would definitely work with this orange Celine dupe.
I saw the pink version of these boots in Glamour mag, so thought I would check out the other colours available and fell in love with these nude versions!

whats on your wish list at the minute, anything the same as me?

HARRY STYLES AT LFW

Just a quick Harry Styles appreciation post. How amazingly perfect did he look at the Burberry Prorsum show at LFW.
-yes, that was a rhetorical question!

BRANGELINA AT THE BAFTAs

All photos taken from eonline.com

If you know me personally, you will know how much I adore Angelina Jolie - how gorgeous she is, her figure, her films, her charity work, her children and not to mention Brad Pitt!

I was looking through the BAFTA 2014 pictures of the best and worst dressed celebrities this morning and couldn't contain my excitement when I came across Brangelina looking so sauve and refined in their matching Saint Laurent by Hedi Slimane tuxedos. Even though Jolie ditched the long frocks for the ceremony she still manages to look feminine and beautiful with natural looking long locks, paired with smokey eyes. Its the perfect combination of simplicity and sophistication! In short, my love for her has grown that tiny bit more - if that was even possible!

TIME FOR A CHANGE

All photos taken from tumblr

Around this time last year I felt exactly the same way I am now: bored of my hair.
I got a full fringe cut into my hair last year just before summer and I still love it, gradually I have had it cut shorter and shorter so that when I curl it under, there is a gap between my hair and my eyebrows - just how I like it! So this post isn't to have a moan about me not wanting my fringe anymore!

My hair has been relatively long since I can remember and I use it as my safety blanket all the time! I've also had ombre in my hair for almost a year and a half now, whether it be brown to blonde or brown to pink, but I think it may be time for change.

These images that I have found on the web are inspiration of changes I could make to my hair! I'm thinking a lot shorter than what it is now and maybe a pop of colour seeing as I have never had a full head of dye before, only dip-dye! All I need now is some confidence to go to the hairdressers and do it!

SIBLING AW14/15 READY-TO-WEAR

All photos taken from vogue.co.uk

The Sibling AW14/15 Ready-To-Wear Collection is said to be 'about stepping back in time to the seventies' according to Vogue, which I can totally see! The hats, the crotchet, the flared trousers, they have literally taken all of the wonderful fashion bits from the era and crammed into their collection. My favourite look has to be the first one I have shown here with the pink crotchet skirt, purple body top and black hat. I love these kinds of hats to begin with and to incorporate them with such beautiful clothes, - well you're on a winner with me! To sum the collection up, I'd say chic and sophisticated, with a modern edge. Also, I would say it is timeless, something you could take from era to era and it would still be considered 'fashionable' and appropriate to wear from day to night!

What are your thoughts on Sibling AW14/15 Ready-To-Wear?

ISABELLA BLOW: FASHION GALORE!

Yesterday I took a trip to London to spend the day with my mum, as I hadn't seen her in about a month! I had a bit of a crazy start getting there, due to the weather, trains being delayed and all sorts of other mishaps. But once there I had a wonderful time!

We went to the Isabella Blow: Fashion Galore! Exhibition at Somerset house to start with, which was so good! I absolutely adore Alexander Mcqueen and all of his work, some of which was featured within the exhibition much to my excitement. Along with other designer pieces from Monolo, Givenchy along with many Philip Treacy Hats which are amazingly designed and constructed. Within the exhibition, many of Blows own works were shown, which as a styling student myself has inspired me greatly and I now have so many ideas floating around my head which I am dying to try out! At a cost of £12.50 or £10 concessions, it is definitely worth the money and worth a look around. You will definitely leave feeling very inspired and in awe of the work within!

Of course, a trip to London wouldn't be complete without a little sightseeing! Here are just a few snaps of places we had a wander round throughout our day and a cheeky outfit snap to show you guys what I was wearing yesterday!

Leather jacket - Topshop
Fur collar - Ebay
Black Jumper - Primark
Shirt - Primark
Jeans - Topshop
Boots - Topshop
Necklace - Primark
Bag - Primark
Just realised how Primark/Topshop heavy my outfit was! - oops!
Have you been to the Isabella Blow exhibition? What did you think?

KARL SAYS

I've just been flicking through my 'The world according to Karl' (Lagerfeld) book looking for something inspirational to motivate me and I came across this saying. 'My greatest luxury is not to have to justify myself to anyone.' It just got me thinking about how much I personally care about other peoples opinions on how I look, what I wear, what my work looks like, what I say and so on! I also know that so many people have that same problem even if they don't want to admit it, but we just need to think - Karl doesn't feel like he has to justify what he does, who he is, how he feels to anyone and look how successful he has become throughout his life! We can be too! Don't listen to anyone else, do anything and everything you can to get to where you want to be, who cares about anyone else!

HARPER BECKHAM

Photo taken from google

Not only does she have the best looking parents and the best mum you could wish for (in my opinion), Harper Beckham is absolutely adorable and ridiculously cute. I came across this picture on Instagram and just had to share it on here!
Annoyingly she pulls that topknot off better than I could ever!

ADAEM AW14/15 READY-TO-WEAR

All photos taken from vogue.co.uk

If you want a way to get to my heart, give my pale pinks and blues with pretty dresses and gorgeous coats. In short, give me Adaem's AW14/15 Ready-To-Wear Collection from New York Fashion Week.

Feminine, sweet, girly, cute but yet grown up and sophisticated are all the words that come to mind when I look at the collection. This was echoed through the models as well, all with simple hairstyles and plain faces to give a look of innocence. I can't even whittle down the looks from the show to think of a favourite, but the blue coat with the fur collar is absolutely to die for! - Lets all hope we can find a dupe in Topshop aye?

What did you think of the collection?

ALTUZARRA EYES

All photos taken from vogue.co.uk

I loved the make-up look of the Altuzarra AW14/15 Ready-To-Wear runway show at New York Fashion Week. I've never really strayed away from black eyeliner & long lashes myself, but after seeing how sleek and beautiful this look can be pulled off I am definitely tempted to try out a little sparkle around my eyes. It is such an effortless yet beautiful style, which adds a different touch to a plain face of makeup.

A few products that I think would work well to recreate this look are:
Bobbi Brown Sparkle eye shadow - a combination of shimmering pearls and sparkle in a number of shades.
Barry M Dazzle Dust - a pearlised loose powder in a variety of shades to enhance the look of eyes
Sleek Glitter dip eyeliner - six shades of sparkly eyeliners to add that extra shine to your eyes.

Have you tried this look out? How did it work out for you?

ALEXANDER WANG AW14/15 READY-TO-WEAR

All photos taken from vogue.co.uk

Anything oversized at the minute I seem to love and want in my wardrobe, so after I saw Alexander Wang's AW14/15 Ready-To-Wear collection from New York Fashion Week, I had a little squeal of excitement and then found myself lusting over almost all of the collection!

There was definitely an androgynous theme running through the show, with hard-edged shapes, a cool colour palette, slicked hair and barely any makeup. My favourite look from the collection has to be the blue and grey T-shirt dress with the stiff collar and zigzag print, not to mention the knee-high boots which, if I had the money, I would definitely be getting my hands on a pair!

What are your thoughts on the show?

SWINGING SIXTIES

All photos taken from tumblr

Recently I've been surfing through the internet, reading magazines and books to find inspiration and ideas for some photoshoots that I want to carry out soon, and I just can't help but love the 1960's! I find everything about it so inspiring; the hair was bigger, the colours where brighter and people didn't seem scared to be daring! Everything seems so much happier to me in that era.

Above are some of my favourite images of the 60's including Jean Shrimpton, Twiggy and some iconic fashion photography/vogue covers.

I PROMISE

I have had many attempts at starting this blog and other blogs but I just can't seem to hack it! I start off eager, over excited and constantly blogging about near enough everything that I can lay my eyes on, and then I get sidetracked with life, college and now Uni so I blog less frequently and then I lose enthusiasm. But I still love to blog and I do really really want a fully functional, frequently updated blog that people can pop along to whenever they want to and have a cheeky nose around my life and what I'm up too!

So heres my plan:
Docs and Daises is still up and running and rearing to go!
I will update my blog frequently!
And it will work out this time!
I promise!

Since September I have been a first year student at Southampton Solent University, studying BA (Hons) Fashion Styling with Make-up & Hair Design. This being the main reason why I struggled keeping my blog up to date in the past due to settling in, freshers, work load, etc etc. I realised that I was putting way too much pressure on myself and my posts, writing essay after essay of product reviews and style inspirations, hence why it was so hard to post all the time. So I have decided to take on more of a scrapbook style of blog including little snippets of my life, whats going on at uni, new trends and styles that I love and so on!

I can't wait to start combining my uni work and this blog together to create a fashion/beauty/lifestyle scrapbook blog for you to read and share my experiences with me!
